In this lab session students were introduced to some engineering problems that arise in the context of urban mobility. Samitha Samaranayake discussed the different modes of transportation available to commuters and explore the benefits and challenges of each of these modes, paying special attention to the rapidly growing segment of on-demand transportation services (such as Uber, Lyft and bike sharing). Students took part in a thought experiment on how to redesign the NYC transit system given the existence of these new services.
