USF Transportation Seminar Series: “Tampa Bay Next: A Program to Modernize Tampa Bay’s Transportation Infrastructure”

The USF Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering presents “Tampa Bay Next: A Program to Modernize Tampa Bay’s Transportation Infrastructure” seminar given by Marshall T. Hampton, on Friday, February 8th, from 12-1pm in CUT 202.
Tampa Bay Next is a program to modernize Tampa Bay’s transportation infrastructure and prepare for the future. Our goal is to improve safety and mobility through innovation, collaboration, and community engagement. The program includes interstate modernization and additional transportation initiatives that address all modes. Through Tampa Bay Next, the FDOT is proactively engaging the community and agency partners for a truly comprehensive approach to addressing our region’s safety, traffic operations, and congestion problems. For more information, please visit: http://www.tampabaynext.com/.
Mr. Hampton is a special project administrator, who currently manages the Tampa Bay Next program for District 7. Previously, he worked for an asset maintenance company inspecting complex bridges including movable bridges, the Arthur RavenelJr. Bridge (Charleston, SC) and the Sunshine Skyway Bridge (Tampa Bay, FL).
USF Transportation Seminar Series: An Overview of the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) Research Program

The USF Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering presents “An Overview of the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) Research Program” seminar by Wade Odell, on Friday, February 8th, from 3-4pm in CUT 202.
The TxDOThas one of the largest state DOT research programs in the United States, fostering the knowledge discovery and innovation needed to operate, maintain and improve transportation systems in Texas and across the United States. TxDOT’sresearch and implementation programs are managed by the Research and Technology Implementation Division (RTI). With an annual budget of approximately $27 million, RTI manages approximately 130 research and implementation projects per year, resulting in cost savings to TxDOTof over $75 million per year. In this talk, Mr. Odell will present on the breadth of the research and implementation program in Texas, how a research idea can become a research project, and some proven technologies that have added value to the TxDOTresearch and implementation program through significant cost savings.
Mr. Odell is a Research Project Manager with the TxDOTResearch and Technology Implementation Division, overseeing transportation research projects in half-a-dozen functional areas (e.g., Construction & Maintenance, Planning & Environmental, Safety & Operations, Structures & Hydraulics, and Strategy & Innovation). He is also a registered Professional Engineer (PE) in Texas, who holds his B.S. degree in Civil Engineering and his M.S. degree in Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin. TRB Webinar: Adapting Shoreline Infrastructure to Sea Level Rise and Extreme Events

TRB will conduct a webinar on Wednesday, February 6, 2019, from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM ET that will discuss how transportation planners can adapt to the changes in natural systems. Coastal states are suffering increased rates of flooding from gradual changes in sea level and extreme storms. State departments of transportation and local infrastructure agencies often struggle to keep up with these increased rates of flooding. Presenters will discuss the latest projections of sea level rise and the changing understanding about tracking and predicting sea level rise impacts. This webinar was organized by the TRB Standing Committee on Ecology and Transportation.
